Over this past school year, as part of our year-round cultural unit, we studied zoology. First, we classified animals into vertebrates and invertebrates, and then we spent a month on each of the following animal groups: mollusks, insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and finally mammals.

As a grand finale to our year-long zoology unit, we had a Petting Zoo visit our school!

As the children visited with the animals, they remembered so much they learned in zoology over the year. Amongst our visitors they were happy to identify three of the animal groups we studied: reptiles, birds, and mammals.
It was heart-warming to see how patiently the children waited for their turn in the enclosure, and how gentle they were with the animals.
What a wonderful way to celebrate the end of our zoology unit!
