MOM embraces and values all cultures and traditions, and firmly believes that early exposure to diversity fosters tolerance, acceptance, and kindness towards one another, helping our children grow into compassionate global citizens.
In line with or values, we love to invite families to tell us about a special day they like to celebrate, share a special dish, or guide us through a special project they like to do on these occasions.
We had a family come in to tell us about Dia de Los Muertos and we enjoyed watching as an ofrenda was created right there in front of us.

Another family came in to tell us about Hanukkah and light the menorah, and teach us how to play the dreidel game.

We had a presentation on Diwali, the festival of lights, and we had beautiful diyas light up our school as we listened to a book about the holiday.

We had a family tell us about the Lunar New Year, and we even had a chance to experience a mini dragon dance performance, sample some delicious vegetable dumplings, and receive a red envelope for good luck.

On Persian New Year (Nowruz) we learned how to set up a haft-sin to evoke renewal, hope, and prosperity in the new year.

Another family introduced us to a Slovenian tradition of dying eggs in onion skin after securing pretty leaves and flowers on them for an intricate pattern.

As we listen to each presentation, we like to emphasize the many similarities that all these different cultures share, such as families and friends gathering to celebrate together, sharing delicious food, lighting candles, wearing special clothes, and so much more! All these similarities make us realize how connected we are. After discovering the similarities, learning about the differences is not something to be feared but to be celebrated and pursued with genuine curiosity in order to get to know and understand one another better.
