This summer, the MOM children were excited to get into their rocket ship and explore our solar system!
First, we learned about the sun, the beautiful bright star that is in the middle of our solar system and provides our Earth with light and warmth.

One of our friend’s grandpa, who is an astrophysicist, even brought in his super fancy telescope for us to look through!

We learned about each planet in our solar system and we had lots of opportunities to understand how they all revolve around the sun through hands- on experiences. We pretended to be planets and walked around the sun, and we made solar system necklaces.

Our afternooners explored our solar system through sewing, cutting, pasting, reading, and writing works.

When we learned about the moon, we observed how craters are made by dropping “meteor marbles” into our moon’s surface made out of flour, corn starch, and cocoa, and we took careful bites out of a cracker to replicate the shape of the moon in each moon phase.

We sent up a bottle rocket into space and we learned about air resistance by floating down parachutes from our play structure.

Each Friday, we made a space smoothie to add a special flare to our space unit!
