The Gift of Giving

At MOM, we teach kindness, caring for others, and noticing the needs of others.

Preparing for the holiday season through the gift of giving was a great opportunity for the MOM children to experience that the act of giving is as rewarding (if not more rewarding) as the act of receiving.

Our school partnered with Brighter Beginnings to adopt a family of four and make their holiday season a little brighter. When we introduced the idea of this partnership to the children, we discussed that receiving gifts feels very exciting, but giving a gift to someone else feels even more exciting. We talked about how knowing that our gift will light up someone’s face with joy and happiness is a gift that fills our heart with warmth and joy.

The children were very excited to bring in the beautifully wrapped presents our adopted family wished for, and on collection day, we all lined up and made a human chain to pass on the gifts and load up our parent volunteer and organizer’s car. As we waved off the car bursting with holiday gifts, we pictured the happy smiles on our adopted family’s faces and felt our heart bigger and warmer with the gift of giving.
